You Will Learn:
01
Scratching
Perform scratching by moving a vinyl record back and forth on a turntable to produce percussive or rhythmic sounds.
02
The Scratch Technique
Execute the scratch technique, which involves moving the record back and forth in continuous movements with the scratching hand only, while the crossfader is in the open position.
03
Forward and Backward Scratch
Perform the forward and backward scratch, also known as scrubbing, where the crossfader is closed during the backward movement of the record. If the record is released instead of being pushed forward, it is also called a "release scratch."
04
Chirp Scratch
Execute the chirp scratch by closing the crossfader just after playing the start of a sound, stopping the record at the same point, then pushing it back while opening the fader to create a "chirping" sound.
05
Transformer Scratch
Execute the transformer scratch by moving the record with the scratching hand while periodically "tapping" the crossfader open and immediately closing it again.
06
Flare Scratch
Perform the flare scratch by moving the record while briefly closing the fader one or more times to cut the sound out, creating a staggering sound that can make a single "flare" sound like a very fast series of "chirps" or "tears.
